1.1 What is WordCount and why would I use it?
WordCount is a simple program designed to do what its name suggests: count words. However, it provides many features lacking in the word counters provided with popular word processors like Word. Most other word counters count all the words no matter whether you want to count them or not. The only option then was to count it manually (why would anyone want to do that) or to have a guess at the amount of words in your document.
Advanced options provided by WordCount 2 include:
- Counting words that are only over a certain length
- Automatically refreshing the word count after changing the contents of the text
- Ignoring Shakespeare-style references in your essays
- Treating hypenated words as two words
Because WordCount 2 can automatically recount the number of words in your text, it is possible for you to compose text that is of a specific length (say 50 words) with ease.
In addition, this new version of WordCount, designed with comfort of use, sports a new, cleaner user interface, with many options that you can customise. There is a new Error Centre that is designed to trap and fix errors should they occur.
